At this stage, despite Elizabeth's controversial, bizarre and often dark opinions on almost everything it's hard not to see her side of things.
Even if you don't agree with what she says, it's hard to argue against it when she presents such a structured and logical argument.
Day three draws to a close with little or no resolution. It simply stops in the same manner it began and goes no way to apologise for that.
What was presented leaves very little hope of a brighter future for Elizabeth which is sad but perhaps it's impossible to rebuild a life once it's been utterly and truly wrecked.
At times it was actually rather moving, with some poignant depictions of the inevitable grief that follows on from horrific trauma.
At other moments it is quite ridiculously graphic in it's depictions of the bizarre sex life which the main character has created for herself and her husband.

There were a couple of moments where the writing made me laugh, however I am not sure if this was intentional or not This is like a modern, horribly-messed up Mrs.
Dalloway - which all by itself going to turn off a majority of readers, probably the ones who best stand to benefit from this electrifying confrontation of all the aspects of a woman's mind.
None of us will be exactly like her - at least, I sure hope not - but there is something so raw and exposed, so unguarded and yet self-deceiving about it all, that I can honestly recognize every single person I've ever known in at least one sentence, some aspect This is like a modern, horribly-messed up Mrs.

At the three-quarter mark I feel safe in declaring this book, if not a masterpiece, at the least one of the most remarkable books I've ever read.
View 1 comment. Jan 05, Jael Rachel Räker rated it it was ok. The majority of this book does not relate or relates little to the author's and protagonist's sex life and body hygiene.
It primarily deals with her mourning about the death of her 3 brothers who died in a car accident this really happened. So I do not agree with the general anxiety and excitement regarding this book in public.
I can understand that she wrote a book trying to come to terms with the death of her beloved brothers. However, I don't understand the connection to her sex life It is The majority of this book does not relate or relates little to the author's and protagonist's sex life and body hygiene.
It is ok to read but not a book I consider as a "must" read, If I'd recognised the author's name from the furore that surrounded her previous work, Wetlands, I might not have purchased this book, but overall I'm glad to have read it.
With a comparison to the sometimes disgusting 'American Psycho' see my review on the cover together with the word 'salacious', it sounded like a bit of fun if nothing else.
In fact this is quite a heavy read with some big themes and insights into what lies behind complex human relationships. The plot centres around an Englis If I'd recognised the author's name from the furore that surrounded her previous work, Wetlands, I might not have purchased this book, but overall I'm glad to have read it.
The plot centres around an English-born woman living in Germany and married to a German man older than herself.
Roche is indeed English; the prose has a certain German inflection to it, as though it's in translation. This is very distinctive and I like its directness; compare it with the Roth I'm reading at the moment.
Despite the couple's high intelligence and status, they live in surprising squalor due partly to obsessive environmentalism described as a religion , which leads to under-washing of clothes and bed linen.
It's a bit yuk really. Frau Kiel is quite obsessed with being a good mother, but feeding boiled cabbage on its own to her daughter probably isn't that.
There are plenty of early flags that not all is right here. The book starts with a lengthy description of how to administer fellatio, which is not erotic in the first place and goes on far too long.
In fact there is quite a lot of sex in the book, perhaps deliberately written so that one wants it to stop.
Aside from the fact that it will stir up book reviewers and get some press coverage, is some of this stuff really necessary? Well the fact is that some of it is, as it sets the context to what might be descrined as an abusive relationship: certainly the husband seems to be pretty much getting his way and enjoying things a lot more than the wife.
Her analyst is generally most alarmed. It's a while before Frau Kiel reveals what trauma lies behind all of this. The reason that she is clinging onto sanity by a thread and a fortune spent on therapy , married to her user of a husband, ambivalent about her own daughter and mad to sleep with other men.
I don't know what research Roche has done, but this is a convincing study of somebody coping with post-traumatic stress disorder and survivor guilt.
Along the way we get a nice swipe at press intrusion. Also a bit of counter-intuition where there is reference to a 'nice, safe plane' rather than a car, which is the opposite of what most people think, despite the statistical evidence.
The flashbacks to the traumatic time are the most interesting bits of the book, although all is well drawn in the direct style described above.
Frau Kiel's fairly hum drum and privileged existence few have the luxury of such environmental obsession may be designed to throw the real plot into stark and horrifying relief.
There is some cleverly masked criticism of the 'right on' here. Again this episode seems to go an an inordinately long time.
Apparently everybody gets worms; however, this is a childhood event I do seem to have forgotten. Having almost accidentally stumbled on this book, I'm now weighing up whether to read 'Wetlands' and any other later books that Roche may produce.
I do like the style and I was entertained, but there's a bit of me wonders what this is all actually for. But one can say that of fiction as a whole.
Firstly, thank you to the publishers for sending me a copy via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
How do I feel about this book? It made me feel completely on edge and terrified that I was on my own personal downward spiral.
Obviously this says as much about me as the book but it definitely plays on your own fears if you have even the mildest mental health problems don't we all?
I found this book to be a difficult read, but at the same time I had to finish it. This was probabl Firstly, thank you to the publishers for sending me a copy via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was probably due to the fact that I enjoyed Wetlands and wanted to see where the author went with this story.
Which ends up being nowhere, in terms of narrative structure. The book is focussed around an exploration of the effect that the way you are raised and traumatic events affect the way you conduct your relationships with your partner and your children.
Through the main characters internal monologue, we are given insight into the day to day life plus the underlying tension behind her every thought and action.
The synopsis may make you feel that this book is all about sex. It isn't. Aside from detailed descriptions at the start and end, the rest of the book is mainly about a major car accident, and no, not in a Ballard's Crash kind of way.
If you didn't enjoy Wetlands then you will probably hate this book I'm afraid. I still hold out hope for the author's future books though.
May 30, Sonja Lewis rated it liked it. Charlotte Roche is the real deal, one of the most honest writers I've come across.
Nonetheless, her prose are not for goody-goodies or for those with a strong dislike for anything pungent or dogmatic. But what is the point of fiction if characters aren't allowed to spout their opinion.
Anyhow, in Wrecked, the author serves up a huge plate of raw vegetables - most of them bitter, albeit a few are subtly sweet.
The former bring stinging tears and major discomfort while the latter will get sly grin Charlotte Roche is the real deal, one of the most honest writers I've come across.
The former bring stinging tears and major discomfort while the latter will get sly grins from the most refined reader. Having read Wetlands, I thought Wrecked got off to a slow start and before it climaxed, the novel dilly dallied a bit too much on some matters.
In any case, the novel stays in your head, like it or not. I think this has to do with the author's ability to manage psychic distance incredibly well.
Heroine Liza Kiehl receives tragic news on her wedding day that alters her life forever. Roche sits comfortably, sometimes too comfortably, in her protagonist's head.
Some reviewers say the story is somewhat autobiographical. Tragic, if it is, since the story itself is a tragedy, if nothing else.
Still, good on Ms Roche for turning an absolute mess into something of great organisation. Again, not everyone's cup of tea--strong language, visceral sex, intense opinions, etc Mar 13, Erica Rose Mythen rated it liked it.
I both loved and hated Wetlands for its graphic and unforgiving nature and I feel the same about this one.
Although I did find the book a little bit insidious the constant stream of frantic babble about the main character's constant worries and explanations actually almost gave me anxiety.
With that being said, I still think Charlotte Roche is one of a kind in her style, she simply does not give a fuck.
A few poignant and sad moments about 'the accident' but the resulting trauma to her psyche i I both loved and hated Wetlands for its graphic and unforgiving nature and I feel the same about this one.
A few poignant and sad moments about 'the accident' but the resulting trauma to her psyche is the overarching theme. An interesting read.
I don't even know how to review this book. Like nothing I've ever read. Came across it by accident at the library, caught my eye as I was walking by.
Some very interesting moments of reading and some very "what did I just read" moments. It kept me entertained, if nothing else and for that, it squeaks by with a 3-star rating.
Apr 04, Thien Dang rated it it was ok. The first time i entered the book I closed it suddenly My emotions were all over the place After I fell asleep.
The neurotic inner-life of a woman on edge This is an interesting inner life view of a woman with a traumatic past trying to deal with the trauma through therapy and unusual sex.
This sounds like erotica from an overaged writer on Wattpad. The narrative is awful and aimless. I only needed to check out new author.
Also, I plan to read two other books by this author, but only because there is lack of controversy in books and I have met with people who looked at me very suspiciously or just laughed at when I showed cover and they read title I know they were just as surprised as confused someone would write about vaginas.
I totally get it. I can't tell if I hated this book or liked it. I think probably the most accurate summary would be that I can admire the courage it probably took to write it.
Given that it's partly based on events in the author's life, one can assume that it's somewhat autobiographical.
Like, crazy messed up. Certainly the sex in it will be one of the biggest standouts - I'd be a liar if I didn't admit to being a wee bit scandalized by s I can't tell if I hated this book or liked it.
Certainly the sex in it will be one of the biggest standouts - I'd be a liar if I didn't admit to being a wee bit scandalized by some of what I read - but what really struck me was the unrelenting brutal honesty in the raw detail about things that are NOT discussed in any company whatsoever - decent or otherwise.
